Study Details

The Late Effects of TBI Study (LETBI)

The Late Effects of Traumatic Brain Injury (LETBI) study investigates the clinical and biological features that distinguish chronic static effects of traumatic brain injury (csTBI) from those associated with progressive post-traumatic neurodegeneration (PTND) as characterized by cognitive, behavioral, and motor function. This is a prospective longitudinal study with multimodal clinical characterization and autopsy endpoints designed to characterize the neuropathology of TBI and its in vivo clinical signatures.

Study Subjects
LETBI participants are recruited from ongoing longitudinal studies to ensure excellent TBI characterization, as well as from the community, and all are invited to contribute multimodal longitudinal data. Participants have sustained at least one moderate - severe or mild-complicated TBI, or multiple concussive or sub-concussive head trauma exposures. This study follows an enriched cohort at 2-4 year intervals. The team anticipates that ≥300 individuals will meet criteria and consent to participate.
Available Data

The study utilizes multimodal in vivo assessments including structural and functional neuroimaging, neuropsychological and neurobehavioral data, and banked blood samples.

Available Biospecimens

DNA from blood and plasma is available from the LETBI cohort.
