Biospecimen reference pools (control samples) are available from BioSEND for a variety of purposes, including pilot studies, assay optimization, and controls between runs. If your analysis will require splitting samples across multiple runs or days, dependent on instruments or time constraints, we recommend the inclusion of reference pools in each run to account for variability between runs. Inclusion of reference pools in your analysis benefits both inter- and intra-assay comparisons.
Reference pools, including plasma, serum, and CSF, are available for most cohorts accessible through BioSEND. The reference pools were generated from non-distributable residual aliquots. The pools include samples from many subjects/visits within the named diagnosis category. The table below shows the number of unique pools available for the diseases and sample types listed:

While there may be some overlapping subjects between the disease-specific pools, the combination in each pool is unique.
